Will Y&R's Paul get Hitched or get Ditched?Spoilers Say Paul and Nikki’s Wedding Is Full of Surprises
Nikki may have Paul's ring, but will she ever truly love anyone but Victor? A summary of Y&R this week as Paul and Nikki prepare for their big wedding day.
Though they’ve known each other for over 30 years, Paul Williams and Nikki Reed Newman only began seriously dating at the end of 2008 last year. After only a few months of dating and living together, Paul proposed to Nikki at the end of May, 2009 and, after some consideration, she said yes. But ever since the couple got together, there have been several hints that Paul and Nikki may not enjoy the fairytale marriage that Paul is hoping for. The biggest red flag is Nikki’s tumultuous relationship with Victor that still continues to this day. Victor has even told Nikki that while he wishes her well with Paul, he knows that Paul is not the kind of man that she needs. The week of August 3rd to 7th especially seems to be leading up to a big surprise at Paul and Nikki’s wedding. Will they go through with the marriage? Here’s a recap on what’s happened with Nikki, Paul, and Victor this week, and a sneak peak at what lies ahead for this triad. Monday, August 3rd: Nikki tries to help VictorAlthough her wedding is apparently only 48 hours away, Nikki is too busy thinking about Victor and the problems that he is going through (it is the anniversary of his former wife’s death; his current, believed-to-be pregnant wife is furious with him for manipulating her family; and a psychotic woman that he brought to town is terrorizing his family). She goes to Victor, urging him to open up to her since she knows he doesn’t want to burden his wife Ashley with his problems. Victor appreciates the offer, but does not want to talk. Tuesday, August 4th: Is Nikki having doubts? On Tuesday’s show, Paul confided in Lauren that Victor and Nikki “will always have that connection and Victor will always be the great love of her life.” But he also believes that Victor and Nikki’s relationship is painful and destructive, and that Nikki is better off with him. Even Katherine, Nikki’s best friend, sensed Nikki’s lingering feelings for Victor. Katherine told Nikki that it wouldn’t be fair to Paul for her to marry him while she still has feelings for Victor. Nikki denied her feelings for Victor, saying “That's not what I'm doing. I love one man and one man only, and the day after tomorrow, I'm gonna marry him [Paul].” Wednesday, August 6th: Nikki remembers her past with Paul and VictorOn Wednesday’s show, at Paul and Nikki’s wedding rehearsal, it will become clear, if it wasn’t already, that Nikki is definitely unsure of whether to go through with the wedding. A series of flashbacks will chronicle Nikki’s relationships with both Paul and Victor – both good and bad moments – starting from when she and Paul met at the beach as teenagers. Also, Victor himself realizes that Nikki’s love for Paul is not as strong as she wants to believe. He tells Nikki that “Paul is a very good man. He loves you far more than you love him.” Nikki, however, continues to lie to herself and tells Paul “I can’t wait to take the final steps of the journey down that aisle tomorrow.” Thursday, August 6th and Friday, August 7th: Nikki’s revelationSpoilers for this week posted on Soap Central indicate that on Thursday, August 6th, “Nikki must finally admit the truth.” Whether “the truth” is that she still loves Victor, that she can’t marry Paul, or all of the above remains to be seen. UPDATE: At the end of Thursday's show, Nikki apologized to Paul and announced that she couldn't marry him. Spoilers for Friday’s show indicate that “Victor ‘lets’ Nikki go.” Does he give her his ‘blessing’ to move on with her life with Paul and forget about him? Or does he let her marry Paul when he himself realizes he still has feelings for her? Again, the answers to these questions are unknown as spoilers are often deliberately kept ambiguous to avoid giving away every detail. Will Paul and Nikki get married? The big question, then, is of course whether Paul and Nikki will actually go through with the wedding. All of the events of this past week seem to be foreshadowing that the wedding does not take place. Furthermore, it has previously been extensively reported that Nikki will have a “dramatic exit” in early August that was taped when Melody Thomas Scott (who portrays Nikki) and show executives were at odds about Scott’s contract status and salary. Nikki will be back a few weeks later, however, since she managed to reach a deal with producers after her exit was taped and it was too late to change the storyline. A mix of spoilers and speculation has led fans to believe that Nikki will leave the church on her wedding day after deciding that she can’t marry Paul. Apparently, she will be outside to get some fresh air and clear her head, and at that time, she will be accidentally struck by the crazed Mary Jane Benson (who in reality is Paul’s sister, Patty) who is driving by. This will result in Nikki being comatose for the duration of Melody Thomas Scott’s brief exit from the show. Thus, it appears that Paul and Nikki do not get married. Do you want Nikki and Paul to be married? Or does Nikki belong with Victor? Find out what happens on The Young and The Restless, which airs weekdays at 12:30 p.m. EST on CBS.
