It’s no secret that Days of Our Lives has slipped in the rating’s race recently. With John finally awakening from his coma soon, the return of Steve’s sister Adrienne, and the return of the DiMeras, the writers and producers are hoping that will all change. The majority of fans undoubtedly miss the unforgettable Jack and Jennifer, but here are some other former Days stars who made quite an impression in Salem and who could kick things into high gear once again.
With the return of Judi Evans as Adrienne Johnson Kiriakis, now would be an opportune time to bring her former leading man, Justin Kiriakis, back to the canvas. Justin and Adrienne created magic together as one of Days' leading supercouples back in the late 80's. Justin could really spruce things up with his Uncle Victor and give his angry cousin Phillip a taste of his own medicine. Wally Kurth is a talented singer/songwriter, so Justin could even spice things up at the rarely seen hotspot, Dune, in Salem. Currently, Wally is portraying Ned Ashton on General Hospital, but rarely makes an appearance on the show except at weddings and funerals, so this talented actor could use more air time.
Regrettably, this Emmy winning actor was let go the latter part of 2006 shortly after Jack and Jennifer left town. His character Frankie was broken-hearted after the love of his life, Jennifer, chose to be with Jack. Billy is married to Julie Pinson, who plays Billie on the show, so the chemistry between Frankie and Billie could obviously work wonders. Besides her brief story with amnesiac Steve, her one-night stand with Nick, and her brief flirtation with E.J., Billie hasn’t had a viable love interest lately. Two lost souls could come together in this powerfully potential love story.
Although it was Farah’s decision to leave the show, many would welcome her character Mimi back with open arms. Mimi made some poor choices on the show concerning the men in her life, but she was still loveable with her quirky comments and quick witticisms. Even when Mimi was having her latest crisis she still managed to exert humor, which the show has been lacking as of lately. She seemingly complicated Max’s life, but being boring was one thing he could never accuse Mimi of.
Renee Jones was let go from the show earlier this year due to storyline decisions. Her character, Lexie, was last seen in a car with her former lover Tek when their car crashed. Her clairvoyant mother Celeste has moved in with Abe in order to help out with Theo, Abe and Lexie’s son. Unfortunately, Renee Jones’s departure has meant less air time for her former leading man James Reynold’s Abe. Abe flew into a rage last year when he discovered Lexie and Tek in bed together. Celeste could easily fall in love with Abe if this story was played out. It would be the cliffhanger of the year if Lexie was to come back just in time to discover her husband and her mother in the sack together. How the tables would be turned indeed!
Eileen garnered an Emmy nomination back in the late 90's when she portrayed multiple roles as Kristen, Susan, Penelope, Sister Mary Moira, and even a male role Thomas. Kristen is John’s former lover and is part of the DiMera clan who was a good girl gone bad during her memorable tenure at Days. Susan is E.J.’s mother, so the possibilities for Eileen on Days would be endless. Unfortunately for many Days fans, this talented lady is torching up the screen on The Bold and the Beautiful as Ashley Abbott. What is this show's gain is truly Days’ loss.
